I’m Nicki, an educational Information and Communication Technology consultant or, in short form, professional geek.
I got my first computer well before Microsoft Windows arrived on the scene. I first got online several years before the internet had pictures, sound or movies. My own children were still quite small when I realised that the computer and the internet could be valuable in their learning.
As a New Zealand trained primary school teacher and with a background in IT support I am in a great position to help schools to develop innovative ICT strategies that suit the needs of individual educational communities. My technical skills are enhanced by an undersanding of pedagogy as well as current educational theory.
I worked as an ICT Professional Development Facilitator with New Zealand Ministry of Education ICT Clusters and as a Professional Mentor with Enhancing High Standards (EHSAS) Cluster schools. Although no longer working in these Ministry of Education contracts, now I work directly with a number of schools, businesses and non-profit organisations around Auckland.
I am able to work with both PCs and Apple computers. Currently I administer Windows, OSX and Linux server environments in schools with between 25 – 100 computers. I’ve planned, implemented and project managed server upgrades, computer and operating system roll-outs and network upgrade projects.
After several years designing HTML based websites I discovered WordPress. These days I use WordPress to develop sites that schools and small businesses can manage and update for themselves.
One thing I’m really good at is translating technical speak into plain English. If you would like to have a chat about ICT, at your school or business, get in touch today!
