Hi Nix
This one has cropped up for me so many times over the years & I have avoided it like the plague. Our lead teacher teams have had so many debates about ICT competencies as a set of skills to be explicitly taught at different levels throughout the school & incorporated into syndicate planning. None of us have been keen enough to actually develop anything to be used in our schools which probably points to an underlying belief that maybe its not really that important. If our students are regularly using ICTs in support of their learning then these skills will be developed along the way as needed - sure a teacher or a buddy will show a newbie how to log on & where to save their files but do we really need to plan for this to happen in a sequential, structured way? Just get on & use the tools for whats important & the skills will develop along the way :-)

I just had to laugh when I saw #1 on the checklist.... for I was victim to the "where's the bl**dy ON switch" when I first worked with the older style mac computers about 7 years ago. Having never worked or had exposure to macs back then I indeed was sure the problem was with the computer - not me! (and now I am a mac geek!)

Anyway looks to be a good checklist of core skills... too often we presume that teacher or older students already have these skills!

You have hit on something that my school is seriously looking at. We are working on a document which i hope will not be a checklist as much as a resource to point in the right direction for both applicational use and web2.0 , I hope ,will be that this will give staff an opportunity to target technology PD onto specific tools, skills and applications that their students should be learning about, upskilling staff in a meaningful and relevant way. When it is done I'm hoping to share it, for further input...

This post has been sitting in my head for quite some time.

Lead teacher skills check lists? You can give me a starter for ten.

Too late - have just advised all our ictpd lead teachers to add Nix's checklist to their master list of ictpd cluster Lead Teacher checklists.

But I am hanging out for Nix’s Checklist for ICTPD Facilitators – reckon you could crib some ideas from the
Substitute Teachers list
