Linkeracy 28 May 2010

Let’s see if we can get a new word into the online vernacular – linkeracy. Linkeracy, as defined by me is the currency of links.

Here goes!
Kevin Kelly on Wired Magazine’s early predictions …

… it is clear that all predictions of the future are really just predictions of the present.

The Mystery of QR Codes Revealed!

I’ve seen the idea of QR Codes coming up a few times recently. There was a piece by Gina Trapani and some discussion around the issues with their use at SXSW.I thought it might be time to do some looking around.

QR (Quick Response) Codes have been around for about 15 years (Wikipedia). They are a [...]

My catch of the day at the Huka Falls Prawn Park

A new decade – a new start?

It would be nice to be able to resurrect this space and do some “fun” writing again. The pressures of the last eighteen months have meant that, apart from tiny Twitter-bytes, I haven’t done any real writing about [...]

Upgrade Woes

I have spent the morning finalising the last of the several Wordpress installations that I look after to Wordpress 2.6.2. Wouldn’t you know it but the only site that I had difficulties with was one of my own.

When I tried to run the upgrade script my blog reverted to a brand new fresh Wordpress install. [...]

Radio Ga Ga

I’ve been feeling a little unwell for a few days and although I have taken some time off work it’s been a struggle to get over the bugs. Yesterday I went to the doctor and got strong drugs. I also decided to give myself a quiet day today.

Reading and writing on the computer hurt my [...]

Flash Problems

From my last post:

Of interest I can’t play any Muxtapes in Firefox on either my laptop (Vista) or the eee PC. I think it might be something to do with the extensions that I have installed. I need to rouse myself and troubleshoot it further.

I realised that it probably wasn’t my [...]

Living Inside My Technology

I’ve been fighting a sinus infection for a few weeks now and the long, holiday weekend meant that I had a chance to hide away and recuperate for a few days. My family often accuse me of hiding inside my technology and, it’s true – especially when I feel yuckky. Anyway, here are a few [...]

Who Owns Your Network

Who owns your network?

I have to be really careful here. During my work week I exchange hats on a regular basis. Some of the time I am teacher who wants access now … and then I am technician with lofty views about security … and then I am subverter – I want to get to [...]

Projections

Confirming that you can use a projector with the EeePc. My aging Epson EMP-S1 worked flawlessly. I was able to play a movie, try out some games and was generally impressed. As was one of my kittens as can be seen in the video.

Apologies for the poor video quality. It came from a zoomed [...]

Eee By Gum

On Monday of this week I went to Dick Smith Electronics and bought an EeePc (that in itself was quite funny as the sales droid proceeded to ex-plain in words of one syl-la-ble that this was-n’t a real com-pu-ter but was really a toy ma-dam. Thanks but I know what it is).

The EeePc is [...]
