Projections

Confirming that you can use a projector with the EeePc. My aging Epson EMP-S1 worked flawlessly. I was able to play a movie, try out some games and was generally impressed. As was one of my kittens as can be seen in the video.

Apologies for the poor video quality. It came from a zoomed [...]

Eee By Gum

On Monday of this week I went to Dick Smith Electronics and bought an EeePc (that in itself was quite funny as the sales droid proceeded to ex-plain in words of one syl-la-ble that this was-n’t a real com-pu-ter but was really a toy ma-dam. Thanks but I know what it is).

The EeePc is [...]

Awakened

If only it was as easy to find one’s blogging mojo as it was to lose it. The impending milestones might spur the fingers to brain and keyboard action but I’m not particularly hopeful. Oh to be able to go with the madness …

It’s not as if I don’t have plenty of material to think [...]

Deprivation

It’s been eleven hard days since we moved house. Eleven days without our usual internet connection. Although I talked to both Telecom and Quicksilver five days before picking up sticks it has been impossible to get the tubes turned on. In effect, because of the patchy interweb available at the Learning@School conference, I have been [...]

Vista on the Tablet

I have managed to install Vista Ultimate Edition on the M400 and so far I am reasonably happy with it. This is a cautious install – there are a few things that I’m uncertain about – so I have retained my Tablet Edition (XP) in a dual boot configuration.

Early impressions:

Good

Vista installed very easily.
Tablet functionality is [...]

iPhone – Smoke and Mirrors?

Cool – the iPhone has been released by Steve Jobs – how exciting! It will be available at some point in 2007 and will come do almost everything that a mobile user could possibly want.

If the iPhone is even half as wonderful as Jobs claims then it will be an amazing device. However, until it’s [...]

Short Bits

We got back from the holiday yesterday and then proceeded to spend yesterday catching up with the washing and, for some inexplicable reading, building a raised herb garden. After almost getting on top of those two tasks I hit some other stuff.

Quote from Nicholas Negroponte:

“In fact, one of the saddest but most common conditions in [...]

Mysterious Moving Matter

When I was using my tablet today I noticed that the new piece of dust (mentioned in last night’s post) had slipped down to the edge of the screen. It was only visible from an angle and I only noticed it when the Portege was in portrait mode. After my meeting I turned my M400 [...]

Tablet @ Work – 10 Weeks In

The Toshiba Portege M400 tablet is one cool computer and I really enjoy using it. It’s reasonably light and I really like the small form factor.

However, (and there is always a but) there are a couple of fairly serious issues that affect my enjoyment of the computer.

The fan runs almost continuously. It’s [...]
