Last night we zoomed up to Waioneke School to see their presentation about what they’ve done this term. The whole school was looking at the topic, “Is there anything out there?” and the kids had attacked their learning with gusto. There was artwork and spaceship models and a song from the little people. There were Powerpoints and Kidpix slideshows and iMovies and audio (a radio broadcast). Well done Waioneke School. Well done kids and well done staff too. You have all worked really hard.
I really enjoyed hearing some of the kids talk about their KWLs and their evaluations and critiques of their own work. A KWL is a simple graphic organiser that allows a learner to look at what I already KNOW, what I WANT to learn about and then identify what I’ve LEARNED.
At the end of the presentation the entire student population (80?) raced onto the field and released their KWLs (attached to helium filled balloons) into space. Who knows where they will end up? And who else might learn something from a Waioneke kid?
Silly me forgot the camera and so these photos are from my iPAQ.
