Backup Goodness

I use MS Outlook for my Personal Information Manager (PIM). I use the contacts and calendar function daily (as well as email of course). I’d be perfectly happy to move to a GPL or opensource alternative as long as it synced with Pocket Informant on my iPaq. It’s really handy to have all my data up to date on the Pocket PC and Pocket Informant is a brilliant interface.

I am reasonably religious about backing up my email / calendar / contacts. I usually have a recent copy of my PIM sitting on my iPAQ and back up Outlook weekly. I just looked on the Microsoft site and discovered an automated tool to backup Outlook 2003 (it works for versions 2000 – 2002 as well). I wish that I had seen this earlier.

Instead I shall spread the goodness far and wide. Until a reasonable alternative presents itself.

EDIT: 29/01/06 It doesn’t work beyond the first time. Ourlook 2003 stays as an open process so the .pst is locked and unable to be modified / backed up, even copied to a safe location. Dang it. back to the drawing board.
